The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) led by Chief Victor Ike Oye has described the faction led by Chief Jude Okeke as political buccaneers and meddlesome interlopers.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Oye, who said he’s the legally elected National Chairman of the party lamented that the situation in the party is becoming too notorious.
Recall that on Tuesday, the faction led by Okeke sacked Chief Victor Ike Oye, Chief Edozie Njoku, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, Barr. Hamman Buba Ghide, Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa, Adamu Danjuma Musa, Chief Uchenna Okogbuo and Barr. Ifeanyi Mbaeri for anti-party activities, gross misconduct and conduct capable of bringing the party’s image to disrepute among others.
Reacting to this development, Oye called on the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to arrest everybody that was involved in that meeting that sacked them.
He said that he’s not moved by the action and the decision was taken at the meeting by the faction, adding, “the party has a procedure, any person that sees what happened knows it’s a charade.
“I am not moving one inch because it has no legality. The people are rabel crowd. I have not met Jude Okeke before. We have a Constitution, we have a procedure to convene a meeting. I didnt convene a meeting.
“There was no single person out of the 684 members of National Executive Committee (NEC) in that meeting. There was no governor, no lawmaker and other members.
“I called them political buccaneers, political interlopers. Whatever happened yesterday (Tuesday) is null and void. We will never condole whatever happened yesterday. We have a procedure. Whoever is aggrieved should follow due process.
“The people who met yesterday (Tuesday), are not our member. Before we hold the NEC meeting we give Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 21 days notice. Who was at the meeting? The people there were not registered, members.”
Fielding questions from newsmen, the APGA Chairman, who addressed journalists at the party national secretariat in Abuja said, “I and my executives were elected on the 31st of May, 2019 through a nationally recognized convention witnessed by INEC and since 2019 we have been doing our businesses without any hindrance but every four years people come up to cause confusion in the party.
“It is not peculiar to APGA alone, it is in every political party but it seems like APGA own is becoming very notorious now and this is one thing we have to stop and again the security agencies have a role to play in this situation.
“If anybody does anything that is illegal against the law such a person should be dealt with to serve as a deterrent to other people which is the proper thing to do. I call on the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS to arrest all the people involved in the charade of yesterday (Tuesday).
“That is the only way we can have further confidence in them. They must arrest those people and persecute them because what they did was a national embarrassment not only to APGA but to all Nigerians of goodwill.
“It has to be seriously addressed and I am also calling on Mr President that this is a threat to Nigeria’s democracy where irresponsible people can wake up from their slumber, gather people, go on national television and pay to embarrass people. It has to be handled by Mr President, that is the call by APGA.
“All the security agencies must look into this matter and deal ruthlessly with those people that caused the nation this international embarrassment because it is all over the world now. People have been calling me from America, from Britain, all over the world asking what is happening in Nigeria.”
Asked what APGA has done for Anambra state, the Chairman said that it was only when the party came on board that the state started working, adding that when Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in control, it only succeeded in destroying the state.
He said: “Once you protect the interest of the people they will stick with you at all times. Since 2006 APGA came into power in Anambra and it has continued to deliver on its election promises year in, year out. Peter Obi came and performed superlatively, Obiano has come now and he is doing better all to the glory of God and the betterment of the people of Anambra state.
“Remember when PDP was in power in Anambra state, it set the state on fire, set the government house on fire, broadcasting service on fire, destroyed government property everywhere. There was no peace in Anambra state, armed robbery, banditry everywhere. Immediately Peter Obi came into power he started building infrastructures.”
He, however, berated the station that air the live meeting of the faction led by Okeke.
